FRUIZ

THE LITTLE BASALT GIANT'S CAUSEWAY OF FRUIZ

BASALTS OF FRUIZ

The Causeway of Giants in Ireland is famous around the world for this kind of volcanic rock. But here in Fruiz we've got a more modest version.

The ocean bed began to crack 80 million years ago. Magma flowed up the cracks and cooled in place without flowing over. Then it cracked apart and formed these unique columns of basalt. Nowadays, they're so striking because of their unique morphology with nearly perfect five, six or seven sided geometry.

DID YOU KNOW... These basalt rocks were mined in the Aldai quarry? The small mine produced gravel used mostly in industry and construction, however these days it's abandoned.
